The city of Farmington, Michigan is a suburb of Detroit located in Oakland County. Farmington spans 2.66 square miles and is virtually surrounded by the city of Farmington Hills. European settlers came to the area in 1824, Arthur Power was among the first to arrive and he founded the village of Farmington. The majority of early settlers to the area were Quakers and the village began life with the name Quakertown. But In1826 the budding city was named Farmington after the hometown of its founder, Farmington, New York. The city was officially incorporated in 1867 and became a home rule city in 1926. In 1976 the Farmington Historic District was added to the National Registor of Historic Places.

According to the United States Census of 2010, the bustling city of Farmington was home to 10,372 people spread over 4,624 households.
