Lathrup Village is actually a city, and it is located in Oakland County, Michigan. Southfield semi-surrounds Lathrup Village. The city spans 1.5 square miles and it is all dry land. The city has an annual flower walk, features a loosely guided tour of flowers and foliage outside specific homes, awards are given yearly to gardens of note. The village maintains a small town feel with no bars, chain restaurants or fast food establishments and no shopping centers. Quiet streets, green spaces and warm neighborhoods help add to the old world charm of the community. Lathrup Village began as spill over growth from a development called Lathrup Townsite. The city of Lathrup Villagewas officially incorporated in 1953 and was the first incorporated community in the township of Southfield.  As off 1998 much of the city was included in the Lathrup Village Historic District, which is on the National Register of Historic Places. The historic district includes over 1,000 properties that are primarily residential in nature. Architectural styles common throughout the historic district are Colonial Revival, Tudor and Ranch style homes. Today Lathrup Village is proud of its quiet streets, well kept properties beautiful park lands. According to the 2010 United States Census, Lathrup Village was home to 4,975 residents giving the city a population density of 2,716.7 people per square mile. According to the census of 2000 the median household income in the city was $89,303 and the median family income was $98,213. Public educational is supervised and provided by the Southfield Public School District. The city is primarily residential and acts like a bedroom community for other nearby cities and industrial areas. Reuther Freeway, Chrysler Freeway and several other major roads run nearby or through the community provided easy access to other communities as well as employment, educational and entertainment options. The city of Lathrup Village works to maintain it’s small town charm and simple life embracing small businesses and resisting being overrun by chain stores and restaurants. The residents take pride in their properties keeping them well maintained and landscaped. Homes for sale are largely historic homes and range in size from small starter homes up through sprawling multi-story homes. Other real estate options include houses and apartments for rent.
